We had an amazing Open Day on Saturday 22 June 2019 for our recently opened Frenchs Forest centre. Thank you very much for those who attended and we hope you had a great time. The open kitchen where our on-site cooks Cathy and Martha prepared sample meals were indeed very popular. Apart from a full display of our curriculum and Aurora pedagogy, the little ones were also entertained with petting farm, face painting, dancing class, soccer games, and other activities. Below are some photos from the day. Our next Open Day is coming up soon. We would love to see you again or especially for you who could not make it to our last one! Date & Time: Saturday, 20th July 2019, 10am-1pm Location: 20 Rodborough Rd, Frenchs Forest NSW

In our increasingly global world, there is huge merit in our children learning to understand and hopefully communicate, if but basically, in a different language.
Learning other languages has been linked to the development of creative thinkers. Studies suggest that children that learn a second language score better in standardised testing because learning another language develops other skills such as listening, observation, problem solving, flexibility of the mind and critical thinking skills. Other studies have suggested that brain function may stay strong as people age as a result. Another benefit of being exposed to a different language is that children get exposed to different cultures as a consequence, opening up their minds at a young age to cultural appreciation. The best way to learn a second language is to start as young as possible. 2-3 year olds are at a stage where their vocabulary development is exploding. They’re also starting to recognise the speech patterns they’re hearing. Some researchers say that second language acquisition peaks at about the age of 6-7 years others claim that this window may actually extend through adolescence. Hearing or being taught a language from a fluent speaker is optimal. We are very lucky to have Miss Samanta at our Frenchs Forest centre who is fluent in more than 1 language. As a result, Samanta has taken on the task of providing a Spanish language lesson twice a week as part of our curriculum. We will be investing in more Spanish resources such as age appropriate music and picture books/stories that will be an aid in the Spanish lessons. The lessons have been met with much excitement from our beautiful children at the centre. So to our centre families, please don't be surprised when they come home with some Spanish to show off with! |
