Gong Xi Fa Cai - Happy Chinese New Year According to Chinese Astrology, each year is associated with an animal symbol occurring in a 12-year cycle. This year we celebrate the 8th year of the cycle.. The year of the Goat (yang). This is often referred to as the year of the sheep as well as there is no word in the Chinese language to distinguish between the 2 animals. The celebrations for new year include the lion dance, fireworks, family gathering and sharing family feasts, visiting friends and relatives and the giving of 'red pockets' to the children with money in it. Our celebrations at the centre included listening to Chinese New Year music/songs, dressing up in Chinese attire, making Chinese crafts and of course sharing a lovely Asian meal together. The children enjoyed being introduced to a different culture and seeing the difference to the culture we live in or the one practiced at home. It never ceases to amuse us how these cultural days excite and amaze the children. According to Chinese teachings, the year of the 'Yang' heralds a year of promise and prosperity and as such Aurora staff and management wish you just that this year.. May you be prosperous & successful.

Did you know that the Greek language identifies 4 types of Love and has 4 main words to describe them... We took this and decided to celebrate Valentine's day in a more simple way with our children... It is normally a day that we are widely exposed to in a commercial way. But it's also an important day to discuss the love we have towards each other, whether than be the love shared between parent & children, friendship love, neighbourly love etc. We had been doing lots of prep work since the beginning of February with our decorations and the lovely little craft items that the children were excited about making for their families. We constantly heard children chat amongst each other about making things for mummy or daddy. We ended our celebration of 'Love Day' with a buffet of yummy lunch. This gave the children an opportunity to practice decision/choice making, controlling their immediate environment as well as gave them the opportunity to practice self help skills. In line with the Early Years Learning Framework here are a few of the elements we covered as an example but certainly not a comprehensive one: outcome 2:

Enjoy a few photos.. More photos will be uploaded today on our FB page, so don't forget to check them out.. Our Aurora family wishes you and your family a wonderful Valentine's Day... Till next post.. Adios! Nothing warms the heart or comforts a parent more than knowing their child has eaten! I know that that's what my first question is when I come back to my kids of an evening... At Aurora, we take our food very seriously. We source fresh ingredients weekly and pride ourself on making almost everything at the centre. This is our way of making sure the children get healthy and nutritionally balanced meals. Today was no different! Our centre-made pizzas were a real hit. The pizza bases were made and proved on our very own bench top as we prepared the fresh veggies, sauce and chicken. Our fussiest of children ate their slice and asked for seconds! We're all for that! We embrace different cultures, traditions and definitely cusine within our centre. We introduced Beef & Veggie spring rolls today with a side of extra baked vegetables and plum sauce to dip... The children were initially hesitant to trial it but ended up being a real hit when they finally took the plunge. Celebrating multiculturalism. We are LIVE. Welcome to our website. You will be able to get information about who we are and what we do. |
